This full-time paid editorial internship from October to December requires someone with a serious ambition to build a career in journalism—especially art journalism—allied with enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to work hard. Applicants need to be highly organised, accurate and able to meet multiple deadlines. A good standard of written English is essential. Payment: $1,700 per month for a three-month period, from 1 October 2012 until 21 December 2012.

Interviews will be held in our New York office, starting from 25 September.
The key duties of the editorial intern include:
• Data-gathering (for What’s On, The Year Ahead, fair papers etc)—sourcing and inputting exhibition listings, fairs and auctions, and attendance data, adhering to house style; checking that all information is entered accurately; correcting errors
• Writing—What’s On and news stories; scope for writing increases in accordance with areas of interest and knowledge of art, and can include artist/curator interviews, fair prep, and news stories for the paper and the website
• Research—daily: cutting newspapers; checking online papers/blogs; checking art magazines etc; checking degrees to which stories have been covered; preparing a list of potential stories/ideas to follow up, in time for the main editorial meeting. Attending press views and private views. Researching ideas for What’s On.
• Helping maintain the internal servers, container and databases—filing copy and pictures; maintaining the correspondents’ database etc
• Liaison with sister papers, correspondents and London office
• Sorting the post, answering the telephone, taking messages and general administrative tasks
