Mulherin + Pollard is pleased to present the group exhibition GRID/GRAPH featuring the artists Michelle Forsyth, Robert Otto Epstein, Alex Kvares, and Cristina Del Campo. All four artists share an interest in utilizing the graph and the grid as the basis and means for exploring the intricate visual possibilities of line, pattern, and form and the disparate contexts and resonances they can carry, from the personal to the historical.

Forsyth investigates the terrain at which personal, emotional grief and memory operates within visual representation through the repetition of minute elements, from the pixels that comprise a digital image to the individual fibers of patterned fabric on a shirt of a loved one.

Epstein’s paintings and drawings are painstakingly handmade renderings that borrow from schematic processes taken from turn-of-the century French and German filet lace patterns, knitting and crochet designs, and mass-produced textile objects.

Kvares examines the visual representation of political histories and ideological structures and reveals the patterns of systematic failure and disconnection that are inherent within them.

Del Campo plunders the patterns embedded within the objects in our everyday domestic life and consumer world as well as within the architectural details that surround us and re-contextualizes them into a kind of structural still life of invented forms.

Michelle Forsyth was born in Vancouver, BC and has a BFA from the University of Victoria, Victoria, British Columbia, as well as an MFA from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. She is currently the head of Painting in the Art Department at Washington State University, Pullman, WA.

Robert Otto Epstein studied at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA and the University of Durham in Durham, England. He has shown at galleries in New York including Finch & Ada, Envoy Enterprises, and Nurture Art, as well as Maloney Fine Arts in Los Angeles, and is currently based in Maplewood, NJ.

Alex Kvares holds a BFA in Painting from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS and an MFA in Printmaking from the University of Texas, Austin, TX and was recently an Assistant Professor at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Atlanta, GA. He now lives and works in New York City.

Cristina Del Campo studied Fine Arts at the Salamanca University in Salamanca, Spain and earned a postgraduate doctoral degree in Painting at Complutense University, Madrid Spain. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in galleries and museums throughout Spain as well as in Paris, France.
